Memory and Imagination

--paintings and drawings made from memory and imagination.
Since 2015 I have made many drawings and paintings that have no immediate, external reference. Instead, these images emerge in a stream of consciousness fashion from my memory and imagination as I draw in a flow state. I usually use a sharpie, brush pen, or sumi ink to make drawings, as the fluidity and fastness of these tools mirrors the rapidity of thought involved in grasping remembered or dreamed images and actions. I draw on cheap paper, though I have used primed linen, chiffon, glass, and unstretched canvas. I use thinned oil paint on slick primed surfaces to make paintings with similar quickness.
As they accumulate, these images form a disjointed narrative with no clear beginning or end. Characters and locales recur. Beach scenes and ominous interiors are common motifs, as are infantalized women in porn scenarios, strip clubs and yoga studios.
